Description The project will implement the management plan for marine areas of Con Dao National Park by developing programs of planning, zoning, boundary demarcation, park infrastructure and human resource development; monitor biodiversity and marine resources, and to rehabilitate the ecosystem degraded by natural catastrophes and human impacts; encourage community participation in biodiversity conservation through education, awareness and joint development of livelihood support programmes; develop communications strategy, education and awareness programmes for use with fishing and other coastal communities as well as local officials, and implement programmes; and implement a livelihood support program in the communities in Con Dao district.
Implementation Status The project has been under implementation for 1.5 years. For the period of July-September 2007, the project has achieved a significant progress. The biodiversity field survey has been completed and the final draft report is submitted for a peer review. A strategic environmental assessment for the existing Socio Economic Development Plan up to 2010 for Con Dao District has been carried out and results was presented to authorities to get feedback. Project started implementing the group of activities for redefining the zonation and development of a park management plan and the work is expected to be complete in the 4th quarter of 2007. The implementation modality of this assignment has been changed from a sub-contractual arrangement modality to a consultant-group modality due to unsuccessful in procurement of a qualified contractor after significant effort. The Project Conservation Officer has resigned. Project advertised to recruit a replacement.
